Markets
London has a long history of markets, many of which date back to mediaeval times. They still retain their lively, bustling atmosphere. Camden Market is one of London's biggest attractions. Its annual turnover makes it Britains 4th largest retailer. It is possible to find everything here, clothing, ethnic goods, crafts, antiques alongside plenty of kitch and tack. One of the best things to do is eat your way around the market. Everything is on offer here from East African, Thai and Japanese cuisine to traditional British dishes. Sample strawberries covered in melted chocolate or during the colder months warm yourself up with a hot apple cider with cinnamon. Portobello Road Market is located in the fashionable area of Notting Hill, stalls sell everything from antiques, jewellery, paintings, coins, medals, silverware and collectables. There are also great vintage clothing stores lining the streets. Even if you don't intent to buy Portobello is a great place to hang out. This area also has cafés, bars, restaurants and delicatessens. The section around Westbourne Park Road and Talbot Road was made famous in the film 'Notting Hill'. One of the lesser-known markets, Brick Lane ensures a real East End experience. The market sells a wide variety of goods including clothes, food, and household goods. The best and cheapest bagels in London can be found here at the Beigel Bake who open 24 hours a day. Afterwards relax in The Hookah Lounge, a Moroccan themed tea room with great food and cocktails on the menu.
