It is not without good reason that London is known as one of the fashion capitals of the world. Along with Paris and New York, London offers one of the best shopping experiences in the world. Just ask any shopaholic! Shopping is one of the main reasons people flock to London all year round. From the exclusive boutiques of Bond Street to the high street fashion of Oxford Street and the lively street markets, there is something to suit everyone's taste and pocket. A "must see" is Harrods, Britain's most famous store and probably one of the most famous in the world. It's hard to believe that this fashionable store had such humble beginnings when in 1849 Charles Harrod opened a small grocery shop. Today, it occupies a vast site in London's exclusive Knightsbridge area. It contains a phenomenal range of products from clothes to musical instruments. Try the exotic food-hall where they sell mouth-watering Crispy Cream Donuts. Also in Knightsbridge is Harvey Nichols, a younger more fashionable version of Harrod's. All the trendy designer labels are here from Alexander McQueen to Versace. On Oxford Street another household name can be found. Selfridges is one of the biggest attractions on Oxford Street, combining a mixture of designer shopping, a food hall and a number of first class restaurants under one roof. Oxford Street also provides shoppers with the choice of over 300 shops with Debenhams, Topshop and Marks and Spencer amongst the big names located on the street.
