While in London, why not mingle with famous and glamorous celebrities, world-renowned statesmen and politicians and infamous murderers. Impossible? Not if you visit Madame Tussaud's Waxworks Museum. Madame Tussaud, a friend of Louis XVI's sister, fled the French Revolution in Paris in 1802. She toured Europe with her uncle's waxworks before settling in London. She brought with her a collection of death masks of the guillotined French aristocracy. Initially Madame Tussaud's Waxworks was located in The Strand but due to its popularity it was moved to Marylebone Road. Fans kept returning as she was always adding people who were in the news. Today you can find well-known sports people, music and film stars, beside prime ministers and members of the British Royal Family. However it is the Chamber of Horrors that most people come to see. You will not leave disappointed. Everyone from Vlad the Impaler to Joan of Arc is included. Many of the more notorious serial killers have their own section. On a reconstructed Victorian street, you can find one of Jack the Ripper's victims. Don't miss the beheading of Marie Antoinette. Upon exiting the Chamber of Horrors, a miniature London cab awaits to take you through time from the reign of Elizabeth I to the present day. |
